STEP exchanges geometry. fai.zip exchanges a living model.
The industry exchanges models via STEP — but STEP is not parametric: the geometry survives while the modeling intent is lost. Parameters are gone, the feature tree is gone, the model can no longer be edited. fai.zip is a parametric model format built on faijs: what gets exchanged is a 3D model whose parameters remain editable — the recipient receives not just a result, but the whole modeling process.
